Ten fingers embrace
Just one so much bigger
Than them. Well, more
Likely four, but who counts.
Little one you are so small
You choose not the name by which you
Are called. You care but for,
Fundament needs, above the rest, love.
Little One you cannot do
Even the smallest thing by yourself.
Totally at the mercy of another
For the tiniest desire.
Yet you captivate all
With giggles and smiles.
Even your repose in sleep
Delights restless onlookers.
Little one you acquaint
Yourself slowly with the world
You take off one step suddenly to many
Ready to ignite adventure
The birth of curiosity, the explorer’s companion
Little one don’t grow too fast
You can’t prevent the growing
But take it slow
Event that you can’t control
Oh little one I was
Little once long ago
Now those memories
For me evade recollection
How I wish I remembered being
Like you little one
Purely innocent, innocently pure
Untainted by time
How strange that in
Becoming big we,
Often, wish to return to
Being the little one
